Why Three Magpies?
When my three boys were little, I often sang them the old nursery rhyme about magpies. In many traditions, seeing three magpies is considered a sign of good fortune, and over time they came to represent curiosity, discovery, and finding something special.
Magpies are also a familiar part of the Colorado landscape, always exploring and bringing treasures back to their nests. That is how we see ourselves: searching for wonderful toys, inspiring classes, and memorable experiences to share with our community.
Today, the three magpies represent my three boys, our Colorado home, and the curiosity that inspires everything we do.
How It All Began
Although Three Magpies now calls Colorado home, its story began halfway around the world in Kuwait, where I created an activity space for children and families offering preschool, after-school classes, camps, workshops, and birthday parties.
My own three boys grew up there, spending their days making art, joining camps, and building friendships alongside me. It never felt like work. It simply became part of how our family lived.
When we returned home to Colorado, I knew I wanted to create that feeling again. Three Magpies is the next chapter of that journey: a welcoming place where thoughtfully chosen toys, creative experiences, and community come together.
More Than a Toy Shop
From the beginning, our goal was never simply to open a toy shop. We wanted to create a place where children feel welcome, families feel connected, and the community feels at home.
We wanted a place where children can take their time, ask questions, make mistakes, and discover the joy of creating without worrying about getting everything just right. A place where they can experiment, start over, and feel proud of what they create because it reflects their own ideas.
Whether they're building, painting, inventing, or participating in our Junior Entrepreneur Program, we hope children grow in confidence, learn to solve problems, think from different perspectives, and discover what they're capable of.
We also believe the little moments matter. Whether it's helping a family find the perfect birthday gift, a grandparent stopping in for a last-minute school project supply, or simply welcoming children who love to browse and explore, we hope Three Magpies feels like the kind of neighborhood place people know they can count on.
More than anything, we hope children leave with happy memories, newfound confidence, and excitement to discover what they'll create next.
